Jon Sparks is kidnapped while on a business trip in Iraq. He escapes and with a canteen of water, a knife, and an LED torch, he has to make his way to friendly forces while living off a strange desert and avoiding recapture by the insurgents.

While crossing the ancient hills of Persia, in Northern Iraq, he gets trapped in a cave, a part of the ancient Karez system. Only this cave is much more than it seemed at first. It contains artifacts, ancient constructions, and hidden tunnels that eventually leads to the Sanctuary of the Djinn, a powerful and ancient species that is capable of transforming the world in the blink of an eye, and its two guardians.

The Guardians have been both testing and guiding him because it is time for an ancient plan to be put in motion and they need a human avatar. He learns about an ancient enemy of both Humans and Djinn. An enemy that will settle for nothing less than complete subjugation and control. An enemy that has had complete and unrestricted access to human civilization for almost three thousand years, since the day King Solomon spoke the curse that the enemy gave him, the curse that banished the Djinn to the Kaf for five thousand years.
